Why do we hold weekly Progressive Euchre??
On Thursday, September 08th we’ll will kicking off our sixth consecutive season. This year we’ve secured a new venue with our main purpose of having ‘Fun First’ while supporting our community, Certainly it’s win-win situation. Our emphasis is geared towards a social evening permitting the players to enjoy themselves on a equal basis well helping the community at large. During the first five years our profits have been directed towards Christmas Food Hampers, the Death & Hard of Hearing, Cancer Society, Oshawa General Hospital, MPP Jerry Ouellette’s annual Children’s Fishing Derby, School breakfast programs, Sick Children’s Hospital, Oshawa Armoury Cadets, Breakfast with Santa Claus the St, Vincent’s Kitchen has highlighted our donations. Our motto has always been – ‘There are no bad causes’.
Players over the years have gained new and long lasting ‘Friendships’ developed among themselves. This is why we have been successful. We are volunteers receiving NO payment. The winner is our community.
About our new venue

Thornton-Dundee park was the original home of Dr. Robert Hill Thornton school located on a one acre site at the corner of Thornton Road North and Adelaide St in Oshawa’s west end.
Since the building’s inception happened in 1880. This designated historical venue has under gone countless upgrades with the focus directed to community activies.
Young and old have enjoyed live plays, lunch-box socials, hay and sleigh rides, square dancing, strawberry socials and was home for euchre parties. In 1954, Thornton school closed and two year later was designated the Thornton Community Centre. The venue continues to serve the community and now is the new home of the Oshawa Charity Euchre.
In 1988, Summit Restoration Inc. replaced all windows, doors and broken/cracked bricks. The chimneys were rebuilt, the steps and balustrade renewed. New soffits and fascia boards were installed. Inside windows were re-framed and painted and the kitchen floor replaced. Now completely handicap accessible a paved lighted parking lot houses 56 vehicles. Creative play equipment, extensive landscaping was included in the facelift. It has modern updated kitchen, it’s spacious and will accommodate upwards to 100 players and has a mammoth cloak room.
Yes the building remains unique and the Oshawa Charity Euchre are proud to call this our new home.
