O.C.E. SHUT DOWN – FESTIVE HOLIDAYS

Oshawa: Dec 15: The final curtain came down on the Oshawa Charity Euchre (O.C.E’s) first half for the 2011-2012 season Thursday at the Thornton/Dundee Community Center with the completion of week 15. It turned out to be a ‘Showdown in Motown” with Joyce Finley winning a cliff hanger battle for first place. She scored 86 points while racked six lone hands accounting for 30 points. It was her second winning the OCE prize of $20.00. Her first victory happened on Nov 17 with 76 points. Finley joins Connie Tomilson as the only two time winner.

Hot on Finley heals was runner-up Jan “Hun’ Lynch only two points back with 84. ‘Eli-Ken’ Cain finished with a respectable third place finish having collected 82 points.

Oddity has it, Cain entered the final game boasting a narrow 4 point edge over Finley. Cain faltered scoring only 4 points while Finley was outstanding posting a pair of individual lone hands being crown the evenual winner going away. Her partner was the eventual runner-up Lynch. That’s girl power in action pushing a side 12 points to 4..

Other top ten finishers were Kenny Graves (78 points good for 4th place), a surging Brian Wilson (5th spot 76 points), his buddy Dave Stoliker (6th having 76 points). followed by Michael Logan with a 7th showing with 75 points) Shirley ‘Mighty Mite’ Robinson placed 8th with 74 points, 9th was Bill Graham 73 while reliable Donny Richardson was 10th overall with 71 accumulative points.

Sharing ‘Connie’s Coins’ for lone hands was Kenny Graves and ‘Mighty Mite’ Robinson with four lone hands each.

Our annual Christmas ‘give-a-ways’ program proved very popular. Going home with turkey’s were Matt Dressing, Dorothy Harrison, Tony Goodine, Jan ‘Hun’ Lynch. Fay Graves and , Gloria Logan. The hams were claimed by Cecil ‘Mister Brown’ Wilson,Joyce Finley Bill Graham, John Burr and Taylor Brooks while the Christmas Poinsettia plants went to Mike Logan Shirley ‘Mighty Mite’ Robinson, Cathy Kehoe, Donald Richardson, Patti Goodine, Frances Hirst, Bill Dressing, Brian Wilson, Lucelle Pierson, David Stoliker, Sonja Graham, ‘Eli-Ken Cain Rick Harrison, Eric Goodwinand,Kenny Graves: The remaining plants were delivered to various Oshawa Seniors Homes.

O.C.E.Tid-Bits

The O.C.E. are closing up shop for the annual Christmas/New Year holiday period allowing the players to enjoy time off to be with families during this festive season. The second half of the 2011-2012 season reopens on January 5th. Doors will open at the TDCC at

6:15 pm with 10 games of euchre kicks off at 7:00 pm sharp for another fifteen weeks. Remaining dates of play are Jan. 12,10,26 February 2,9,16,23 in March on the 1st,8th, 15th, 29th followed by April cards set of 5,12. The closing awards banquet closes out the year on Aprfl 19th with a FREE Ukranian dinner and a night at the races. In February we’re celebrating St Valentines day for the gals followed by the boys St. Patrick’s party in March.
