Three events were culmited in two days at the Santa and Friends breakfast held Saturday at Consideration Co-Operative Homes  Banquet hall before a jammed packed and appreciative crowd. The event was ranked a complete success by Carol Wilson the complex’s operational manager. Wilson remarked “the families including the anxious children awaiting Santa’s visit had jammed the venue’s auditorium 90 minutes ahead of the scheduled start time of 10:00 am.

“Jolly Ole’ St.Nick (aka Jim Hutchinson),Mrs Santa Claus (aka Edith Beavis) and their trusty elves Ivy and Fudge just smiled claiming “the magic of Christmas is still very active in the minds of true believers”,

All youth’s received an official OCE Christmas toy sponsored by Oshawa Charity Euchre profits conducted every Thursday at the Thornton-Dundee Community Centre. The O.C.E. are a group of concerned volunteers who strongly support their mandate ‘Charity Euchre With a Community Purpose’ In previous years toys had been supplied by a national agency but this year’s request for help was rejected. Many private individuals Frances Hirst, Grace Wilson, Ron Hele, Fay & Ken Graves, Jim Shaw donated cash for the purchase the bulk of toys. Meanwhile the Bank of Nova Scotia (King & Thornton Branch) and the Oshawa Express also made toys available. It is estimated the toys overall would have cost over $1,000.00 this year.

Everyone in attendance was treated to a hearty & unlimited fest of OCE pancake’s. Choices were either chocolate chip, blueberry or plain smothered with delicious maple syrup and either a hot or cold beverage. Oshawa mayor John Henry and councillor Bruce Wood spearheaded the flipping of pancakes under the watchful eye of OCE kitchen boss Cathy Kehoe. Her supporting crew were Tony Goodine, Dorthy/Rick Harrison while David Stoliker, Matthew Dykstra, Jan Lynch,Patti Goodine, Don Richardson and Jim Shaw handled floor management,

Police Constable  Scott Dargie supplied up-tempo festive music. The lead singer with DRPS rock’n'roll band delivered another unbelievable spirited performance having kids playing along on the tampering rings while Santa and Mrs. Claus joined in on the sing-a-long portion.

With the OCE bank account reduced to zero it’s time to fund raise additional monies for charity and community projects starting again this Thursday, December 8th for week 14 action, The final 2011-2012 first half season portion of 15 games will be completed on December 15 with the members annual turkey roll. A two week shutdown stops OCE cards to permit a Christmas/New Year’s break. January 05th the final 15 games will complete the 30 game schedule ending in April.
